Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are committed to making their community a better place, while supporting their Church. Being a Knight is more than camaraderie; it is being involved with your community; it is supporting your local Catholic Church, while enhancing your own faith; it is about protecting and enhancing your family life.
The Knights of Columbus was founded by Father Michael J. McGivney on four basic principals. Charity is the lesson that is taught in the first degree ceremony. After attending this degree, an individual is considered to be a member of the Knights of Columbus. All first degree members are encouraged to attain the second and third degrees as soon as is practical. The lesson conveyed in the second degree is unity. The principal of the third degree is fraternity. At this point each member is “knighted” and considered to be a full Knight of Columbus. After being a member for 6 months, a fourth degree ceremony may be conducted, imparting the principal of patriotism. The Fourth Degree includes the Knights who are in the Honor Guard, those which wear the capes, swords and chapeaus for special ceremonies.
We are Council 9917 and we pride ourselves for our ongoing support of our core programs. Through our monthly RSVP Breakfasts, we have been able to support all 10 of our current seminarians financially each year. We are active supporters of Right to Life, raising money for both local and national programs. We maintain the Keep Christ in Christmas program, which allows us to secure outdoor, Christ centered advertising that is displayed locally during the Christmas season. We are currently working on a perpetual fundraiser to help support the St. Joseph Society for Retired Priests. Many other opportunities often arise and we strive to always be there to lend our services.
